An important message from the GM...

Several Concealed Handgun Permit Instructors who are certified by the state have been accused of "selling" certificates. If you are interested in obtaining your Concealed Handgun Permit, and you are offered a course that is shorter than 8 hours, beware.  This activity could have negative effects on your application process as the state sends people to these classes to seek out this very activity.  If, on the other hand, you are looking to get the most out of this class.... I think you know what to do.

Why become an NRA Instructor?

It is the responsible thing to do...

As a part of the firearms owners community it is everyone's responsibility to promote the safe use of firearms for sport and protection.  Becoming an NRA instructor will provide you with organizational training, classroom materials and a host of support services from the NRA so that you can use your experience and knowledge to train others.

It is rewarding...

Teaching is very rewarding.  Personally, I enjoy the look on a student's face when they "get it," or when I hear that a student has used what they were taught and it saved a life.  The impact an instructor has on a student is long lasting, and can make a real difference.

NRA Support...

Becoming an NRA instructor makes you part of a respectable organization with many support services including organizational and training material as well as marketing and advertising opportunities.  The NRA backs their instructors.

It Pays...

NRA instructors set their own prices for classes, and the market is good right now for those who wish to instruct new firearms owners.  Basic Pistol is the most popular and can range from $75 to $150 per student depending on the geographic location.  Some instructors even teach private lessons that range from $35 to $50 per hour on average.  Teaching can be a good secondary source of income.   Even if you are not interested in doing the work to organize your own classes, TCG may be able to use you as a contractor in your area.  If you are selected to be a contract instructor, we will organize and market the classes and pay you an hourly rate to teach.

The Discounts...

As stated earlier, the NRA supports their instructors, and they have worked hard to get us discounts with some of the major arms manufacturers and equipment dealers.  Midway USA, Beretta, Sturm Ruger, Kahr Arms and Aimpoint, just to name a few, are all willing to give significant discounts to NRA instructors.  Some discounts are as much as 50% and include a donation back to the NRA.  (The discount with Karh Arms is significant enough to offset the cost of BIT/RSO and Basic Pistol Instructor certifications.)
