Class & Range Safety Rules

     These rules are in place to help reduce the risk of accidents during class and on the firing range.  This activity is meant to be fun and safe and adherence to the rules will ensure that it remains as such.

Basic Rules
  1. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
  2. Always keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
  3. Always keep the gun unloaded until you are ready to use it.
  4. Know your target and what is beyond it.
  5. Be sure the gun is safe to operate.
  6. Know how to use the gun safely.
  7. Use only the correct ammunition for the gun.
  8. Wear eye and ear protection as appropriate.
  9. Never use alcohol or drugs before or while shooting.
  10. Store guns so they are not accessible to unauthorized persons.
  11. Be aware that certain types of guns and many shooting activities require additional safety precautions.
TCG Rules
  1. Know and obey all range and classroom rules.
  2. All firearms must be inspected by the instructor or Range Safety Officer before class and no ammunition is allowed in the classroom.
  3. ABSOLUTELY NO HORSEPLAY WHILE IN THE CLASSROOM, OR ON THE RANGE.
  4. Know where others are at all times.
  5. Shoot only at authorized targets.
  6. The instructor and Range Safety Officers will give instructions and they are to be followed.
  7. If you have a malfunction follow the steps under the "Malfunction" heading below.
  8. Do not aim downrange while anyone is in this area.
  9. Anyone can call a cease fire.  Follow the steps under the "Cease Fire" heading below.
  10. Please do not eat, drink or smoke while on the firing line or in the staging area.
  11. Please wash your hands thoroughly after shooting and or cleaning your firearm and keep your hands away from your eyes, nose and mouth before washing your hands.  (Clothing should be washed when you get home.  Wash range clothing separate from regular clothing.)
  12. Pregnant women and children under 7 are cautioned against handling lead or lead contaminates.  Please consult a physician before attending class or shooting a firearm.  It is not the responsibility of The Contingency Group, LLC to determine the gestational status or age of any student.
  13. Anyone deemed detrimental to the teaching/learning process will be asked to leave and no refund will be given.
  14. Intentionally unsafe actions will result in an immediate expulsion and possible prosecution under any applicable laws.

Malfunction

     Please follow these steps if you experience a malfunction during the course of fire:
  1. CONTINUE TO FACE DOWNRANGE!
  2. Stop attempting to shoot the gun.
  3. Lower the firearm to a 45 degree angle.
  4. Ask a Range Safety Officer or the Instructor for help.
  5. Do not attempt to clear the firearm until you have been instructed to do so.

Cease Fire

     "Cease Fire" is a command that may be heard on the range during the course of fire:
  1. Anyone can call a "Cease Fire" if they believe there is a dangerous situation as a result of a violation of the safety rules  or a malfunctioning firearm.
  2. Stop in place and look at the person or area where the command came from.
  3. Follow all commands from the Instructor or Range Safety Officers.
