An important message from the GM...

   Several Concealed Handgun Permit Instructors who are certified by the state have been accused of "selling" certificates. If you are interested in obtaining your Concealed Handgun Permit, and you are offered a course that is shorter than 8 hours, beware.  This activity could have negative effects on your application process as the state sends people to these classes to seek out this very activity.  If, on the other hand, you are looking to get the most out of this class.... I think you know what to do.

NRA FIRST Steps Pistol Orientation
(Class Schedule TBA)

     
NRA FIRST Steps Pistol is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling of and proper orientation to one specific pistol action type for classes of four or fewer students. This course is a minimum of three hours and includes classroom and range time. Students will learn the following:
  • NRA’s three basic rules for safe gun handling
  • The particular pistol model parts and operation
  • Ammunition specific to the student's handgun
  • Shooting fundamentals
  • Cleaning the pistol 
  • Continued opportunities for skill development 
     Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet and the FIRST Steps Course completion certificate. (Lesson Plan, revised 3-08).

    NRA FIRST Steps Rifle Orientation
    (Class Schedule TBA)

        NRA FIRST Steps Rifle is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling of and proper orientation to one specific rifle action type for classes of four or fewer students.  This course is a minimum of three hours and includes classroom and range time. Students will learn the following:
    • NRA’s three basic rules for safe gun handling
    • The particular rifle model parts and operation
    • Ammunition specific to the student's rifle 
    • Shooting fundamentals
    • Cleaning the rifle
    • Continued opportunities for skill development
